GameBreaker is one of the programmes developed by the Sportstec group designed to help to improve performance through reviewing and analysing sports performance. This programme can be used to analyse individual sports such as a sprint race and also team sports such as a rugby match and are a useful tool for coaches, managers and players alike.
The programme's many features allow the analyst to review video footage through the use of coding windows, timelines and drawing tools to name just a few. In addition, the playback feature allows the analyst to perform coding in real-time but also allows them to re-watch the footage to add any additional codes that might have been missed.
GameBreaker is of particular use to coaches as the ability to montage highlights of the footage makes it easier to show players what was successful during the event. This can be done during a one-to-one session with the player where their individual performance is looked at, or during a team meeting where an element of the team-for example, midfield football players-or the team as a whole are critiqued. To further aid progression, a statistics sheet can be created from the timeline instances and transferred to a spreadsheet application in order to give a numerical representation of the data collected.
Progressions in technology have led to an increase in competition in the market of video analysis software, leading to a much vaster range of programmes available. This, in combination with a desire to perform in the 'here and now' has led to mobile applications of video analysis software being more readily available. This includes GameBreaker, which now has a version available for use on iPads.
